I bought a Hectors Goby 1 week ago today. I acclimated for an hour and released it into the main display. It had been eating with no sign of injury or disease while in QT (my lfs QTs for me) . The instant it got in the tank it found a safe place to hide in the rock. I have been checking each day and it is still alive in there, but has not come out once (as far as I know). My other fish are a pair of frostbite clowns and a yellow tang. None are aggressive fish. I figured I would wait until at least a week before I got opinions on what to do moving forward. I have been attempting to syringe feed into the cave to make sure food is available every few days. Any advice? Does it just need more time?

Mine almost always hides too.
The only real time I see it come out is in low light times and or if I am pouring pods into the tank.

Does it eat enough or do you have to do special feedings for it?

Seems to be doing fine. I just think he’s a bit more secretive and maybe a bit nocturnal. Doesn’t seem like a big eater, I think it mostly eats pods in the rocks.

Mine has been out more and more each day. Sand sifting away until anything comes near and then he hides. Hopefully he gets a bit more confidence as time goes!
