HELIX Acan Mother Colony

I will bust out the dslr and the underwater camera. fyi, my photos look like crap under anything but all lights on (whites) so that's what I give you pictures of. FYI, I run a 5' long 6 bulb TEK fixture over my 6' long, 29" tall tank with a 4' long Reefbrite XHO led strip. I have 4 blue plus bulbs and 2 coral plus bulbs. So my white is not 10k. Also, this colony sits on the bottom all the way to the side of the aquarium so it's not super bright over in that area. I will also break out my cheap, junky led fixture that I use for frag swaps to see what kind of photos I can get like that.

I am not denying that it is an amazing piece... If it wasn't awesome then I wouldn't be interested.
When everything in the background of photo is in a wash of blue it makes it hard to determine the colors and brightness of those colors since there is no color point of reference in the photo.
I am sure better photos would sell the item much quicker and do it more justice. I know most hobbyist who are going to drop $1500 would like a better quality photo... I think you are only increasing your chances of selling it with a better photo. Thats all.

I don't think picture is the problem here. The amount is.
Most acan collectors like to buy a head or two and grow it out. This is more for a vendor who wants to cut it and make money.
As an acan collector myself I don't see the need to tie up my 1600 in a whole colony when I can try to buy a head or two for 200 dollars and grow it in year or two.
I also have limited space so I buy small so they have time to grow.
A beautiful piece. If it was smaller frags it would have sold by now.

Ssdawood, I totally agree with you. This is a coral that is in the budget of few, but I am not looking to sell it to more than one person. I agree with nance, and I will not cut it up. Looks too good.

First, I have to say that I replaced all 6 of my T5 bulbs recently and the colors on this acan have gotten a little more red than normal. This happens every time I replace the bulbs.
Also, please note that the large polyp on the top is more than 2 inches in diameter and the entire colony is between 5 and 6 inches in diameter (shaped like a softball).
Here's daylight photo (6 T5 bulbs - (4 Blue + and 2 coral +) and a Reefbrite)

The polyps on the side are even more colorful:

Not yet, but not interested in fragging. One reason is that I want it to remain a colony. But another reason is that the base is not that big (it's shaped like a ball with a smaller base). So it would be hard to frag into anything but 2 pieces. Also, the polyps are so huge (full), the acan never pulls itself back into the skeleton like most other acans - hard to frag
