Hi, My name is Dave and I Live in a small town called Wigan which is in the UK between Liverpool and Manchester (22miles to each). My current aquarium is my 4th in 4 years so i dont think anymore will be happening soon. My aquarium is 56" long 28" front to back and "26 high which gives me a volume of 170g.
I jumped into this hobby 4 years ago after keeping tropical for 15 years, I had always loved the look of the marine fish but was always to scared to make the jump. Who would of thought 4 years later I would not really care much for marine fish and it would be more about the coral.

My first tank

The third tank leaked in teh end which was an excellent excuse to upgrade to the current system

Not really sure where to start with this thread but anyway after we had finished mopping up after tha tank had cracked we set about planning the new tank.

cracked sump from the old tank

Wooden floor was ruined so we had to rip it up and we decided to go for carpet. I decided to build a splash zone where the tank would sit so the carpet would not be ruined.

We had been suffering with condensation so an extractor fan was a must this time

Started to collect everything i was going to need. All my tanks have run with a display DSB as the main filtration
IMG_7213.jpg

i bought a 220 Liter tub and mixed brand new salt water and started adding it to the old tank. I used a siphon with a build in over flow back to the sump to do this. I did this so when the new tank cam i would have 220l of water that the corals were already using and i would not nee to acclimatize them.

I wanted the rock work to allow the fish to swim through and around the back so I made the decision to use reef bones for the extra rock work. I didne want loads of rock in the sand as this would take up room in the DSB so I built the rock work with this in mind.

so thats the right hand side of the tank sorted and the left side was already living in the old tank with all the corals on it

I bought a bubble magus nac 9 and when it arrived the impellor was cracked and the pump was very noisy. They replaced the pump but the 2nd one was the same so i sent the skimmer back

IMG_7317.jpg

I replaced the skimmer with a marine source RDC-1600 but this was 2 powerful and now i just have an mce600 to add ozone.

The tank arrived, whoooooo

notice the 6 inch upstand around the lower tank, this is to hide the dsb

What a mess a tank move it, especially when the house had been flooded.

hope im not boring you all, going the shop now and will update when i get home.

Dave

Nice thread, for me it has always been about the corals. Fish smish, I have them but never really take any notice of them.

Looks great! I like the progressive pictures!! The the right island is great!! And will look even better when filled in!! Can't wait for some close-ups :)
Also, can we get a picture of what's running this beast (the sump) and what your maintenance is :)

I like what you've done, talk about a really nice bounce back from the cracked tank issue!

What are the specs of the tank, I'm an equipment nut... so I am always curious.

How do you have your equipment organized?

I love that extractor fan.. does it make much noise? Is it doing the job you'd hope for?

In the shop and thinking about getting these

most of the corals have gone in the bin due to aefw but ive took frags of them all.

Very nice job on the rock and aquascaping. Tasteful and appears to be filling in well. Congrats on the new tank, will you be adding a Sherman to this one?

ok, heres some more of the tank build and coral and fish shots

i tried t5 lights for a short period but went back to halides as i missed them to much and didnt like the tank with them.
