HELLLLLLP Please. Why am I losing my Candy Canes

Is it my bad luck or?

I have a large colony and small frag mini-colony of kryptonite candy canes. Came from a tank colony the size of a basketball.....that grew out from small colony in friends tank.

They rarely open to eat like my prior colonies, and looked great but this week the mini has 2 or 3 heads dead (white skeleton) now a couple heads in my large colony are dead?

Any suggestions please? Sorry for bad pics...iPhone.

I have never kept these but besides euphyllia, it seems these corals are the most troubleshooted LPS. There never seems to be a consensus. Whether parameters, lighting, flow or whatever else, I have never seen one answer that outshone the others and corrected the problem. While I’m sure these aren’t impossible to keep, they do have a bad track record. Good luck!

Thanks also what I thought but....but one is in the sand on bottom low flow, big colony is up high in moderate flow? They came out of tank high in tank and moderate flow too. But thank you. Come to think of it, my All is actually down today....I usually run 10 dKh and dose but I have been out of town all week.

I have those as well and mine is under a very low to med flow ( standard return flow in a 32 Bio Cube ). Alk is alittle lower at 8.1. Seems to love it

I just revived my little frag of kryptonite candy canes. The heads started receding and the skeleton was showing through the tops. I dipped them in coral rx, moved them to the sand bed in a mid flow area and they started to look a bit better over the next week. I then did an iodine dip and after 3 days they started to bounce back. They look so much better now and are finally feeding at night again. I dont know what was bothering them. I am dealing with a low nutrient issue. My params are:
Temp 78
Salinity 1.025
Alk 8.0
Cal 430
Mag 1305
No3 0 (detectable)
Po4 0 (detectable)

I've had them and my all is about 10.5, soni dont think it's an alk problem specifically... did you change anything? Lighting, flow, salt? Have you inspected them closely with a magnifying glass to see is there's any pests attacking it?

Is your PO4 accurate? 0.3 ppm is high. My candy canes are mid tank medium light/flow and do great. The only time I had an issue is when my clown tried to host and was wearing the tissue off by wriggling in it.

I have some that sprout tons of heads, my alk is around 8 and they are at the bottom of the tank, low flow.

Mine do best in lower light (150 par.) In higher light they slowly STN and lose polyps.

I have a tank cover (Home Depot sells the black AL frame kit & Hobby Lobby black mesh) so I will place a sunscreen swatch over my Candycanes and see.

But what about one in low flow and on the sand?

I also will do an iodine dip, see if any critters are beings bad.
