Hello everyone. I was in the club a couple years ago, but due to some family illnesses and so on, I had to take a break. Things are going good now and I'm setting up a 56gallon column style reef. Ready to get going again. Anyways, I'm putting water in this weekend and I understand the cycling process of a new tank but I have decided to try Red Seas Reef Mature program to cycle this tank. I guess I was wondering if anyone in the club has used this and wanted a few tips before I start.

1) The program says start with live rock and leave lights on 10 hours a day.

I have BRS reef saver dry rock(not live), it has been curing for 2 weeks now in saltwater, heated with flow.
Any ideas on how to adjust the program to make up for the Dry Rock and should I really keep lights on that much? I have 2 Kessil a150s and I've always kept lights off or on for very short periods of time during cycling to prevent algae blooms.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and I'm looking forward to meeting some of you at the next meeting or frag swap. Hope everyone is well and tanks are doing good. Thank you

it sounds like they are starting with what we call group b rocks here

your dry rock are the group A we discuss, blending the two is easy, or just doing the A portion as you've stated. it only comes down to ammonia anyway, doesn't matter which program you start with if that helps to know as Cody stated.

the reason the distinction between the two classes of rocks matters, is because the cycling practices differ 100% among groups. actions are literally opposite depending on the group used. this helps to solidify the right cycle for the right kinds of rocks.

I've not used this product but have used Dr. Tim's One and Only and it definitely works. Just throwing out another option.

Thanks for the link brandon429. Good read. Of course I already bought the Red Sea kit but I may save it for another tank setup later when all my rock is established.
Thanks for the advice everyone, any tips are greatly appreciated. Btw I've paid my dues for the club and was wandering if we get or need cards for the discounts at AC or SevenSeas, and how do I get one?

x2 on the Dr. Tim's. I have used it on 2 different tanks and it allows you to add 1 small fish right away.
