Good day everyone. My name is Daniel and I'm new here to R2R forums. I have been a Facebook fan for quite some time and finally decided to join the forum via Tapatalk.
Well, not sure where to begin so I'd just like to start by saying I have been in the Saltwater hobby myself for two years, one day out of the blue (or into it)I just decided to start a new hobby and haven't looked back since. The first tank I started with was a 55g i had on loan from a friend (just the tank itself). I took the time to set it up correctly, with patience and not rushing into it. Fish only at the time but I knew I wanted more. I had it for over a year before I finally found the tank I had been looking for. A beautiful 56g column. I also purchased a 20g for a sump. So I set up a qt tank for temporary housing of my fish and tore down the 55g. I moved everything (sand, rock, water, etc.) from the old tank to the new one. And within a few days it was ready for fish. Well a year later and here I am! Enclosed are a few pictures of what is currently setup. If anyone is curious, I could probably include a link to the Facebook folder I have dedicated to this adventure if it is currently not private.
Current setup.
56g column with 20g sump.
60lbs live rock
40lbs argonite sand about 1 1/2" deep.
I keep my salinty between 1.022 and 1.023 and don't seem to have to many problems.
As far as other parameters go I couldn't say.... I'd love to have a test kit for all of that.
Lighting is a 48" Oddesea HOT5 fixture running (2) Wavepoint 12000k super daylights I run 7hrs and (2) Wavepoint Super blue Actinic 460s I run about 9 hrs. Honestly, I can say I get good coral growth out of them.
Current fish:
2 Bangaii Cardinals ( a brooding pair, yes and they have had quite a few broods but I think the other fish have ate the babies)
2 Clownfish ( not true clowns, but enough of a clown to make me laugh)
A beautiful Sailfin Tang
Debellius Reef Lobster ( he molts about every other month)
A 12" Hadonni Carpet Anemone (over 8 yrs old) I recieved from a local guy who was tearing down his tank... Seemed awesome at the time, now i kind of regret it... devoured my cc.
I have lost a few fish in the time its been set up.
1 Bangaii Cardinal (loneliness?)
Niger Trigger (jumped)
Clownfish (jumped)
Scooter Blenny (up and quit eating the brine I was feeding)
Watchman Goby (just disappeared one day)
Lawnmower blenny (ate all the hair algae that took over during a 3 month bloom and wouldn't take to green seaweed)
And a few corals. Some green and orange mushrooms, green stars, 3 different kinds of zooanthinds, and some plating coral that's grows like crazy!!!!
Anyways, that's about it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
(Yes, I do have some crazy brown stuff growing on the sand. I want to say its cyano, but it almost reminds me of diatoms or the dreaded dino (cyanodinatoms? [emoji13]).... or maybe its time for a deep cleaning)
