Hello everyone,
I am new to the reefing hobby. My wife and I bought our daughter a 125 gallon aquarium for Christmas. We started thinking that salt water tanks were a lot cooler than freshwater. Then after looking at pictures on the internet decided that reef aquariums were even cooler! We knew nothing about reef aquariums, or how much money all this would cost! After about 40-50 hours of research and customer reviews etc...we finally have water in the tank! It has been about 10 days now and I just added a raw shrimp yesterday, so I'm hoping in a couple weeks being able to add fish? After getting into the hobby, I am pretty much addicted to it now! I still have a ton to learn, but enjoy researching it. I plan on starting out with a pair of clown fish and then getting a couple yellow tangs as long as the clowns are doing well. I then plan on adding several kinds of soft and stoney coral. I built a custom stand for the aquarium and added 3 separate 20 amp breakers for the aquarium. I have quite a few hours into all the plumbing, electrical, stand etc... but I enjoy doing that stuff, so it was fun.

I have a 125 gallon tank that I drilled myself, 16" Synergy Shadow overflow, 72" T5 light with 3 halides built in. Apex reef Jr with and added an Apex 8 outlet, 40 watt UV sterilizer, Tunze ATO, BRS media reactor, 1750 GPH Reef Octopus return pump, 36 inch Skimz sump, 200+ gallon Skimz skimmer, 4 Hydor powerheads 1500 GPM, BRS RODI system, 160 lbs of live rock, 2 bags of live sand, and also a large credit card bill!

Wow, you didn't just tip your toes into the water to see if you liked it. You jumped in head first..... Good for you.. From what I can see you have done a ton of research
and are off to an excellent start. My Daughter was 4 when we started our first tank together..... so many great memories....

Good Luck and enjoy !

Thanks Cam! I always go a little over board and figure anything worth doing is worth doing it well! I wanted to buy smaller cheaper equipment, but did not want to be unhappy and upgrade in the near future. From what I read and advice I received from other reefers was to buy good equipment right away. My daughter is 12 and really into animals, so it is a lot of fun showing her how everything works and having her help me with everything. Dirty tanks look gross and I figured if this was going to be in the center of our house I better make sure it looks good, not only so we will enjoy it more, but also so my wife doesn't make me move it into the garage or something! I kind of like the fact that there is so much to learn about the reefing hobby and that a million variables effects everything differently, so it is a constant adventure! The BRS YouTube videos helped me tremendously!

Welcome to R2R, very nice set up, looking forward to seeing it stocked:)
