Hello everyone, my real name is Cornelia. I am Ramona for reef tank forums.

I am a complete novice in this hobby: it all started with a betta - Humbo is his name….2 month ago...and updated to a…. Reef??? lol. The wisdom says to start with freshwater fish first. Actually I got a 12 x 12 x 14 rimless tank with inside filter (eheim aquascape) for him, but all the high tech pictures kind of infected me with this bug. I keep reading your blogs, take notes, drive my family nuts, skip cooking…..I keep going. The more I read, the more scared I am. At this moment I try to gather the needed equipment while reading the Living Marina Aquarium Manual by Bob Goemans. My goals are: not to give up, not to kill the underwater creatures, and not to flood the floor. Wish me luck…

I also signed up with my local club LOUISVILLE MARINE AQUARIUM SOCIETY at http://www.lmas.org/

Welcome to R2R! You will learn so much by others on here. We are always here to help! I know you will fall in love with this hobby as I did and so many others. It can be challenging at times, but to watch everything come together into a beautiful ecosystem is well worth the struggles. Good luck!

Welcome to Reef2reef! Ed wiser is a good guy and LMAS is a great club!

Welcome! This is a fantastic place for you to learn. As has already been said, just read around as much as you can, and you can even search for topics on Reef2Reef as well. Looking forward to seeing what you do with your tank. Also don't be afraid to make a thread about any questions you have, everyone is happy to help out (:

We have the same goal list! Post a tank pic. :)

Hello again,

First I want to thank you all for your kind words. It's encouraging.

My tank is still naked(!) I do have my own ro/di (100GPD 4-STAGE TWIST-IN RO/DI UNIT), refractometer and the eheim powerhead STREAM ON+ 2000. I will be using IO salt for now.

After lots of confusing searching I went ahead and just ordered 10 lbs of cured LR from KPAquatics (whoops, I hope I won’t regret) So, I’m in for a looong ride, I hope. (smile)

My plan would be to place LR in SW, scrub very well with a brush, dipp in what? Hydrogen peroxide? Then blast them with powerwash jet? or only with turkey baster? Then rinse in SW and cure them again in holding SW bucket for how long? Maybe 3-4 days of darkness? Other option would be to cure them direct in the tank (because it's empty at this time) using the inside filter (empty or with its sponge and the bio-pellets?) under the room daylight? or the original eheim daylight (ca. 6.500 Kelvin, ca. 3.100 luxon, and between 400 and 500 nm) for 6 hrs? and check them for any pests/algae (I will have to learn to identify those unwelcomed in a reef tank)

The sand (CaribSea Ocean Direct Caribbean Live Sand) is still in the bag. I am thinking to place it in the tank after LRs are cycled? So, so many questions…..

Welcome to the salty side! Good, you have your own ro/di system. I have mine hooked into the laundry room water pipes and its mounted onto the wall, I suggest you find some place whre you can use it whenever.
