Hi all! My name is Bowen, and I’ve been involved in this rollercoaster of a hobby for over 5 years now. All my life, I have been enraptured by the ocean, and after going on a trip to Hawaii when I was younger, I was dead set on owning an aquarium complete with all of my favorite fish. And so that Christmas, when I was only 12 years old, my parents gave me a $100 gift card to Petco to make my dream come true.
Needless to say, all parties involved grossly underestimated the sheer amount of time and money that would go into such a project, and so my first 42g aquarium experienced inevitable catastrophic failure, in part due to a power outage, but mostly because I was still in middle school and had no idea what I was doing. Yet, my pure passion for the hobby kept me going, even when I felt like throwing in the towel.
Years later, after facing almost every pests and problem in the book, from hair algae to MENs to dinos, I am wholly proud of what I have accomplished so far with my 65g reef, and am looking to keep going strong! In fact, a few months ago, my mother and I successfully raised our first clutch of baby Clarkii clownfish, so she is along for the ride as well, and will thankfully help with my tanks when I’m off to college to study marine biology
I have been using this site for insight and guidance as a longtime lurker, and it’s about time I enter the scene with my own wealth of experience under my belt. I can’t wait to get to hear your stories as well!
