I was finally ready to mix my first ever batch of saltwater. After reading the “instructions” on the Box of Fritz RPM, I went straight to R2R for answers instead of Fritz.

Then, less than 24 hours later...my first power outage! Luckily, I’m just cycling and will have back up everything before livestock goes in, so I had to laugh, and share with the only people who might appreciate the irony.

Thank you all for your efforts.

At the very least, get a $10 to $15 battery powered bubbler. If you have a power outage, one with 2 'd' cell batteries can run for a day or two. I use them all the time on my holding tanks when we are snorkeling in the Florida Keys.

Power outages are a real concern in the hobby. With the time and effort plus all the money put into this, having a solid backup plan when it comes to power outages is in the top five priorities.

Even though you may take an account where you live and how frequent power outages happen in your area and taking into account your local weather temperature fluctuations, a power outage plan is very important.

Me I don't have a battery backup system the run the basics. In my area power outages a very infrequent. So I keep on hand a power inverter that I can run off my car battery for power outages that last a long time, like no more than a day.

Is Ron said above I do have a battery bubbler that will kick on when the power goes off for oxygen in the system. It's attached to my display tank in case it happens.

Welcome to R2R!!! Good thing it was just cycling lol do you get power outages often? Might be smart to invest in a battery backup.
We probably get 1-2 outages each year, minimum, but they’re almost always less than 2 hours. The worst since moving to this house was ~10 hours. I had 2 major failures in my freshwater past that could have been avoided with the proper power backup, so I’m willing to do whatever is needed to avoid going through that again.

I should consider one of these as well, lol. Do you have a brand and model number of one i can look up?

The ones I'm using now (I always have 2 or 3) are AZoo brand. I think I bought them off Amazon. But I think Cabelas/Bass Pro and most sporting goods shops that sell fishing gear should have them. Mine seem to run 36 to 48 hours on 2 'D' cell batteries. I've never owned any (I should) but there is a battery powered bubbler out there that also plugs into a wall outlet. It DOES NOT run on AC power. It does not run at all. But it senses when the AC power goes off and then starts to run on battery power. That's a great thing to have in your tank in case a power failure happens when you aren't home!

In fact, I've talked myself into going to look for them!

I’ve seen those. I’m trying to find one of the uninterrupted power supply surge protectors first, but none of them seem to last more than a matter of minutes. Even if I do find something along those lines, it still seems like a good idea to have one of the back up bubblers plugged into it. I’ll be sure to share if I find anything cool.
