Hello, My name is Jamey and I live in Alabama and I'm new to the saltwater aquarium hobby (aquarist?). I have a Coralife biocube 29 (that I got from a member here at R2R) and I'm going to be setting it up and cycling the tank soon (need sand and water).

How did I get introduced to a saltwater tank? At work. Long story, but my company installed a tank right across from my office. I've always been interested in saltwater aquariums so, I volunteered to be the "official fish feeder". That was several months ago and I have learned what I imagine is only the tip... of just the tip... of the iceberg.

Several years ago, more than 15, I kept fresh water tanks (at one point I had 3, 10 gallon tanks going at once) and did so with good success. Not really sure if any of that past knowledge would even help at all but I have put water in a tank and kept stuff alive at some level.

I have watched (lost count of how many) youtube video's and I have read so many pages of info. Some that has scared me and made me want to run from the hobby, and some that was encouraging and very helpful.

What I ~~ think ~~ I want to do: A reef tank, as corals have really fascinated me much more than fish as I've been reading about and helping with the tank at work.

I'm a technical writer by trade (technical communication) and understand things in steps, how to's, along with "if this issue, then do X". And another thing about me is ... I do not click any "buy now" buttons quickly or have many knee jerk reactions. My wife says I agonize over purchases while other people are signing for the package at their front door already. (and by the way, the wife wants a tank too and if she was doing this, the tank would've already been cycled I'm sure)

Thank you for any information or encouragement you may give,
Jamey

Welcome! You are lucky to have your wife on board with wanting a tank too! My wife loves the tank, and that i have a hobby, she just doesn't want me to spend money on it. Just tonight she told me to get a second job. Oh well! Reef2Reef is great, have fun learning!
