Hello! This is probably my first time officially on a reef forum, but I'm excited to learn a lot from the threads and people who created them here. I'm an animator/motion graphics artist residing in the Boston area, I've been keeping a small 10g freshwater aquarium over the last several years, and I also have a panther chameleon. For the last 5+ years I've wanted to get into the reef hobby, but I haven't pulled the trigger for a number of reasons.

Eventually, I'm hoping to replace my freshwater tank with a beginner reef tank, but I'm planning to take at least another year to learn more and save some money and work out some logistics. I'm an apartment dweller, and though our place is pretty spacious (1000 sq/ft one bedroom) for us, I'm looking to keep a tank at a reasonable size/relatively easy to maintain, probably no more than 30 gallons max. So for now I don't have a ton of questions yet, but I'm sure I'll find my way around.

Any reefers live in apartments with medium/smaller tanks? If so, how do you handle storing supplies like buckets/containers to mix salt water and what challenges have you overcome with the constriction of space?

I don't live in an apartment so I don't have an answer for you, but wanted to welcome you to the forum :) others will chime in with their suggestions ;)

Welcome to R2R.

Massachusetts has an active reefing community. Be sure to check out BostonReefers.org! This forum is particularly good for buying used equipment and livestock. Lots of folks sell frags there. It's a great way to learn and to get bargains!

Ooh! Good idea, I'll be sure to check it out! Definitely interested in what local shops and resources reefers use around here for supplies and such.

Welcome! I'm from western mass, Near six flags.

I would say look to a nano tank, or a biocube to start. Simple and low maintenance while you figure it all out. For storing things it's as simple as the stand you get for it. The bigger the better. This way you can store any and everything you need below, and if you ever decide to upgrade or run a sump filtration system you wont need to get a new stand to house one!

Don't be "Scared".. take the dive!! ;Vamp

I'm definitely looking into a nano or cube to start, something that's an all-in-one so I start out with all the necessary equipment, but with some room to upgrade a few things down the road. I'm eyeballing something like the Red Sea max nano with stand or something like that. Would make a lovely tank in our apartment!
