Hello R2R!

New to the site, but not to the hobby. I started my first tank 8 years ago. It was a 90gal bow front which I ran for about a year before upgrading to the current 180gal. This one ran in our old house for a year before moving to the current place. It's been online in the current house for 6 years.

I've tried all kinds of corals, but the current setup is basically FOWLR though I do keep mushrooms and leathers. I like the easy maintenance and the different fish options that come with not keeping much coral.

After many years of not adding new fish, I added a kole tang last year who despite what I thought was a thorough QT protocol still managed to bring in velvet which killed all but 3 of my fish. Obviously I was devastated!

I left the tank fallow for many months, hospitaled the 3 fish I had left, and only recently completed an agressive restock which I achieved using 5 QT tanks. It's been 5 weeks with everyone in and so far so good.

All my fish are very young. The tank is still full of algae thanks to the long fallow period, though the fish are making headway. I'm excited to see the system with life back in it!

This seems like a great community and I look forward to being involved.

I don't have many recent pics but will take some soon. In the meantime I'll leave you with a bad cell pic of my bi-colour blenny and a very tiny clown goby who are apparently pals.

Hello and, Welcome to R2R Spent some time in Vancouver and really want to go back.
Do you have a clean up crew working the algae?

Thank you for the welcome and all the kind words!

One of the hardest losses was my foxface. He was 9" and at least 1" wide. He'd been with me nearly the whole 8 years and netting out his body brought me to tears.

But this is a hobby with many highs and lows, and we walk a delicate line between life and death for the creatures in our care. I can't imagine not having a tank, and I'm constantly learning!

@jsker I do have a decent clean up crew, though I suspect I may have a snail eater in there too! To be honest I don't mind a little algae. It gives the fish something to pick at and helps keep phosphate in check. And the rate these guys are plowing it back there won't be much left soon anyway!

I'm from a small city about an hour east of Vancouver BC. Cool to see a few other Canadians around!

Hi there! Welcome to Reef2Reef. I am so sorry to hear about your losses in your 180g...that's rough for sure. However, I am so pleased to hear that things are looking up and you can go back to enjoying your specimens! By the way, I adore that photo of your Clown Goby and Bicolor Blenny (love those guys), so cute!

Thanks for joining us!
