wow, kinda like me...
probably feeding flakes or just overfeeding in general.
i moved my live rock to my new tank only to discover that the rocks and sand held the years worth of phosphates in, only to be released again.

first, i bought a high range phosphate test kit, then i switched foods from flakes.

my phosphates are still high (0.5ppm) after nearly 2 months of water changes and directed feeding to fishies and the starfish.

i guess a big tip i read here was to use the gravel cleaner to clean up sand and to gently brush rocks.

hang in there!!!

WOW @crappie!
Only since Sunday and what a difference. Good job!
I definitely recommend getting some test kits to have on hand. As far as the power head goes, just play with the positioning until you get the flow that makes your tank inhabitants happy, breaks the surface tension of the water and doesn’t dig holes in your sand bad.
You‘re off to a great start. Keep up the good work!
Id bet money that those Clowns are happier already!
:D

I know it’s bad...feel free to bash me...

I’ve had it for about a year and other then replacing the cheap hob carbon filter a few times I really haven’t done any maintenance or testing. Although I do have a ATO and use RODI I buy from the LFS I haven’t even done one water change... I just checked the bag of salt I used for the initial setup and it’s a solid brick.

I wouldn’t mind trashing the setup and starting over but I have some livestock hiding behind the floating smog...trust me there is life in there!

This is my first post so I’m not sure how long these threads stay open but I will post updates on any improvements. First up is a water change and a new set of ATI T5 bulbs for the 2 corals hiding in there!

Just tell everyone you are going for a “Mississippi Delta” look. Minus the clowns it is pretty much on point.

Just an update for those that saw the tank back in December After about 3 months of actually maintaining the tank I would say it looks nothing like it did back in December!
