Hi everyone.
New here but not so new to reefing. I do concider myself a beginer. I had an 140 gallon reef tank for two years. My setup was very intermediary and low budget. I sprung a leak and lost everything I had worked very hard to keep healthy and happy. Since then I had a new son and have not had the time or funds to start again. I was also discouraged from starting over because of all that I lost. Well now my son just turned 4 years old and I am ready to start again. I do not have any of my old setup because I was forced to sale it needing the money to keep my 9 year old daughter and son a float. Im a single father as of a year and a half now. I have done well for us in my new career as a sign fabricator of 2 years and am getting a nice tax refund this year that will allow me to start a new reef tank.

I have been given a 75 gallon aquarium that will be my DT. it is not reef ready and I have looked into the glsss-holes kit to drill the tank myself. I also have a 55 gallon tank that I will build into the sump which will be kept in the basement directly under the DT. I have been researching as much as possible to prepare for the build once I get my refund. I do have a good plan of how I will build and setup thanks to all the info here and youtube.

I just wanted to introduce myself. Any suggestions and info you all have would be greatly appreciated.

Glad to be here!

Joe

Hey Joe. I'm from Merriam. Just 10 mins from downtown kcmo. Welcome to the forum. Are you also on the local KC Salt forum? -Feng

I can get you some easy stuff to get started, free. I also have a tank and etc for sale too, if you haven't already found one. It's a 90 gallon oceanic reef ready with sump, pump and skimmer.

Thanks for the welcome! Im not on the local forum yet. Just started here in the forum and still getting to know the site. Definitly interested in any info or deal you have. I do already have a 75 gallon tank that I planned on using but if you could sale me a setup that may be about the same cost of me getting all the parts and kits to make this 75 gallon reef ready I would be greatful. Good to know that there are fellow hobbiest close by. Im still in the planning stages until tax refund time.

Hey I am also in KC, I have a few small tanks at the moment, I lost everything in my 150 I had earlier this year after a move. I know how the discouraging feeling hits ya! Look forward to seeing you on here and at the LFS' around town!
Jeff

I have been looking for a LFS around town to check out and get some helpful pointers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Most of the ones I have looked up on google are no longer in business.

Here is the low down, don't tell anyone I told you LOL

Aquarium Wholesale, people are awesome, you will get the best deal here, but be prepared to wait because they are busy and at the Great mall in Olathe.

Paradise Aquatics people are awesome here as well and they will test your water for free!! They have some primo stuff for the area and they just opened up a new store somewhere in south OP

There are some others around, but I won't talk about bad experiences I will let you make your own judgments unless you want the real low down, you can PM me.

But if you are really patient then your best deals on equipment and pieces will on the local forum.
