Welcome home, you will love it here!

Keep us posted with your build with tons of photos! :)

What stores do you recommend in ABQ. I will be there in 1 week. Thanks.

Check out Southwest Reef. They are the guys I have been bouncing build idea since off of and are super knowledgable/approachable. I wish I could have found someone like them for the freshwater side, but they have Been so supportive with my inquiries.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!!

Here's a pic from one of my favorite articles on reefkeeping, applicable to new hobbyists and old as well:

If you're coming from FW, here is (to me) the biggest difference: the nitrogen cycle is only the startup of a SW tank cycle. The next 6-12 months is a maturing phase, and it's typically in this time frame where algae outbreaks occur and things can sort of roller-coaster, and if you stock the tank up too quickly, you might see corals randomly dying & fish getting sick, etc...hobbyists can very easily fall into the trap of chasing problems = making more problems => giving up and selling everything off. We don't want that to happen to anyone!

Long-term stability and balance are the keys, and you just can't shortcut the process significantly. That's always the #1 thing to keep in mind!

Thank you for taking the time to share this. I am of the camp that likes to go in having an idea of what I am getting myself into, so I have spent over a month just researching and learning the ins and outs beforehand. Your advice is indispensable and I will take it strongly into consideration over the coming months as I begin this journey.

Hello all, I am a new to the saltwater side but have in depth experience on the freshwater side keeping multiple high-tech planted tanks with finnicky shrimp and soft water fish/plant species. I recently aquired an IM 25L at a screaming good deal, and decided that I wanted to continue to evolve my craft by attempting a softie/LPS reef tank. I have a pretty good idea on what I am going to do for my build, and will create a new thread later on to start documenting my progress. If anyone is a reefer/aquarist in the Albuquerque, NM area, please say hi so we can grab a beer and talk fish! Have a nice day everyone.
