Hello everyone! New to this forum and still somewhat new to reef keeping.
I've had freshwater tanks forever, and dabbled once with a small biocube about 8 years ago. Ended in disaster.
My current tank is a 90 gal, with a 20 gal sump, sand bed and pukani. It's almost been 11 months since it first got water. After my cycle had finished and I had added a pair of clowns and two corals; it turned into an algae forest that you couldn't even see into. Because of a couple busy holiday months, it took the back seat.
Towards the beginning of the year I had had enough and went to town on cleaning out the sump, scrubbing down the glass, netting all the floating algae, and getting some more CuC recruits. Was definitely starting to look like something again but there was still some long algae on the rocks; so after some research, I ordered the real algae powerhouse : my Two Spot Bristletooth Tang, "Dusk".
Since she was added, it now is a presentable tank! (in my opinion). Over the summer I've been adding a few batches of fish and frags every month.
Definitely been a learning experience and have had many newbie mistakes but I'm definitely hooked now.
My current fish inhabitants are:
-Pair of Occ. Clowns - "Jaws and Orca"
-Bonsai Coral Beauty - "Bite-size"
-Two Spot Bristletooth Tang - "Dusk"
-Trio of Indian Ocean Anthias - "Bibbidi, Bobbidi, and Boo"
-Royal Gramma - "Jelly Bean"
-Yellowtail Damsel - "Lewis"
-Springeri Dottyback - Not yet named, new fish on the reef
Also in attendance are:
-two urchins - jerks, they knock everything over and frequently roam around with a frag on their head or a struggling hermit crab..... but are very interesting.
-emerald crab - big scary guy, only emerges during the "frenzy" and to freak me out when I'm placing frags.
-Blue linkia sea star - "Darwin", was definitely something I probably shouldn't have purchasesd, after much forum lurking...but he's here and has been around for at least 3 months now.
- Pepperment Shrimp - Only see him during the "frenzy".
-Various hermit crabs, snails, and one conch (who goes for weeks without calling or checking in, and then will show up basking on the sandbed)
Currently wishing I had a larger tank as I can't add more fish, starting to fill up on real estate on frag spots....dreaming of the day I can upgrade.
In the future, we will be getting a house custom built and the tank/tank room is at the top of my must have list!
Attached is the most up to date photo I have (about 3 weeks old, amazing how much can change in that time!), there's been some more frags added and rearranged since then. Will hopefully get an updated one soon!
Thanks!
