I'm a new member joining after many months of wanting an aquarium. I have multiple friends who are into the hobby and I'm going to be getting into it myself in the next 14 days. I am purchasing Laird's old tank and sump, and I am proud to be trusted with such a setup. It will be a beautiful tank in the next 3-4 months.

I'll be posting a few pictures in this thread, but the majority of photos and videos will be in a Show-Off thread once I get things going.

:clap2: Alright! Welcome to the hobby and R2R!! Can't wait to see you get your tank going!!

Hi, welcome to r2r!!! I can't wait to see how your tank comes together!!! :)

Welcome to R2R!! 1smile1

Be sure to start a build thread as your system comes to life!

Here are some shots of my progression this month. I ran 2 gallons of vinegar through the system for 1 week. My God was the smell terrible... After I pumped the disgusting water out and disassembledthe tanks, I got to cleaning the acrylic and the glass. Eveything is almost spotless. I was sure to use 0 chemicals. Only warm water and a small amount of vinegar. I also spray painted the backside of the tank. Exterior glass of course.
Finally, I had to wash the 7 year old sand that I was given. The water was nearly black at first. Black Death and stinky!!! After 3 hours with my water hose, I finally had clear water and sand I was comfortable using. My next steps wIll be mixing some salt water, rockscaping, getting my heater installed/running and setup my fuge.

This is my first aquarium of any kind and I'm very excited and determined to have a beautiful ecosystem, so please offer positive criticism. I've read a lot on refugiums and rockscaping, but I'm still unsure about the parameters to look for while it cycles.

Please offer any pointers that you wish you knew while getting started.
