SLUUUURRRPP! That’s the sound of me being sucked back in once again. I’m an old soul reefer from back in the 70’s and 80’s. Then life happened. Went from a young free surfer/diver/reefer to “Married with children”. Mortgages, braces, car payments, this’s and that’s and the tanks went into storage. If you’ve been there you know what I’m talking about. But now the kids are grown, out of college and out on their own. With no more kids in the house or college tuition to pay, it means a bit more “mad money” to do what I want with.
So, I’m back in this maddening hobby. (Why do I do this to myself?) Oh yeah, because I love the ocean! Back in the day I have had an assortment of tanks with old school equipment. Fish only, Reef (or what passed for reefs back then), even a cold-water tank that I stocked myself from diving. (Ever have your own lobster tank at home? Great for having friends over for dinner.) Starting up again can be a real eye opener with all of the advancements and new toys to play with. (I’m such an engineering geek.)
Since I can’t help but to keep adding critters I went with a fairly large setup this time around, 130 something gallon display tank (cube) on top with a 120 something gallon sump/refugium below. LED lights on both display and refugium, controlled by Apex, Seneye monitor, running Triton system. I started collecting my tanks and equipment about five years ago but now finally have it up and running. Yeah, I’m slow, but that’s a good thing in this hobby, right? So far, with the help of R2R and the internet everything has been running fairly smoothly.
So that’s me in a (huge) nutshell. I do have one question about a piece of equipment but I’ll save that for another thread.
