Hey everyone, long time African Cichlid keeper, brand new to saltwater. I have been looking at posts on here and a few other forums for quite some time now, figured I would finally join up.

29 Gallon Tank
DIY Internal Overflow Sump (Takes up about 5-7 Gallons) - 3/4 Bulkhead supplies water to chambers
- Carbon and Floss in first chamber, heater in second, pump in third
185 GPH Return Pump
Hydor Koralia Nano 240 GPH
150W Ehiem Jager Heater
AquaticLife Reno 30" Wifi LED
30 Lbs of Live Sand
24 Lbs of Live Rock (Infested with Majano, need to deal with that this weekend)
Future Fish List: Either one or a pair of Clowns, some other fish that is TBD at this time. Still looking. Plus a clean up crew (my LR came with some hitchhikers already)

SG: 1.023
Nitrate: 20
Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0
PH: 8.2
Tank has only been up and running for a week. I didn't have the API saltwater chart, using copies on my phone, so I could be off on parameters.

Tank is on my kitchen bar top. I ended up supporting the bar top just to be safe. This will eventually get a door on it for more of a cabinet feel. I enjoy building things on my own.

As I stated above, I have been looking around for quite sometime. I have a few questions, I couldn't fine the exact answers I was looking for anywhere.

As of right now, this tank will be a FOWLR tank until I get the hang of this. Later down the road I would like to add some easy corals and have a reef tank. The light I have now will not work for this. I will need to supplement with something. My LFS (whom seems pretty darn knowledgeable) recommended adding the Aquatics Life Saltwater 24" light to supplement. This would be sufficient for keeping some soft corals. Just looking for additional feedback on that.

Welcome buckeye! I just moved from Dayton to South Carolina last November. Where are you in Ohio. There are some great local clubs that can really help you get started and with any issues you encounter.

R2R is absolutely great, but nothing beats a good local club if you’re lucky enough to have one near you!

Thanks. Medina, OH, just South of Cleveland. I saw that on some other forums, havent looked that far into it yet.

FYI, feel free to critique or offer suggestions on my setup. May not be the right place section for that, but just want to let everyone know I dont mind suggestions.

You have definitely come to the right place. So much insight and experience here. It has been priceless for me!
