Hi!

My name is Richie and I am new to reef2reef, but not new to the hobby. Years ago I had a 55gal reef tank with my father. I am now working on a 125gal long tank that I got for free from a friend whom was moving. My only problem is that the tank was a freshwater setup so it is not drilled. I have a HOB BH2000 Reef Octopus protein Skimmer for the tank. I also have a 72" T5 320w lighting fixture which houses 4 60" bulbs. I have already bought so live sand (about 120lbs worth, I think I need more) and a 25w UV sterilizer from emperor aquatics. I also have all the live rock (now white) from my fathers tank since he took it down, plus some more from some of my local friends with reef tanks. Need to see how many pounds I have, but I know I need more. My only concern is should I run a HOB refugium, since I will have no sump. I also have a fluval 306 canister that's fairly new, but I hear this is a no no in the reef world. What do you guys think and also any suggestions on which t5 bulbs I should get since I can only have 4 in the light.

welcome from another FL reefer!

I cant comment on the t5 bulb combination, I can however suggest looking into a glass-holes overflow kit, if you are interested in the option of running a sump/refugium.

Just don't want to drill the tank that has age. Don't need it to crack, that's why I was looking at a possible large HOB refugium like the CPR Aquafuge2 LARGE with the light from BRS

Yea. It would probably be worth it to go ahead and drill the tank and make an overflow.

I am looking at LFS that can possibly drill it for me. I still have the new Reef Octopus HOB skimmer. Can I have a sump with just filter socks maybe and the refugium
