I would like to start out by thanking Reef2Reef for providing us with a forum to meet, talk to and learn from like minded individuals. My name is Jeremiah and I am an aspiring reefer and am currently in the process of building my first Reef System. I ordered a custom 200ish gallon display earlier this month and will be beginning my journey into the world of reefing slowly!
To provide some background I am a 33 year old medically retired former Combat Medic who is currently working on a masters degree in Science with a focus on Secondary Education! I suffer from Insomnia as a result of my Combat related injuries and find peace with my current 55 gallon brackish aquarium. I have been researching Reef care for the last 4-5 months and watching all the BRS Tv videos I can find. Not to mention poking the brain of my LFS Salty Fish Owner Terry and his amazing family and team! The reason I am doing such a large system is two part first everything I have read suggest they maintain water conditions much more stable than smaller systems. Plus I have an 11 ft wide recess in my living room so I ordered a 96” long 24” wide by 20” inch deep glass tank with Center overflow two 1.5” drains and three 1” returns. I have a 75 gallon tank I plan to convert to my sump and use the Triton Method from the start. This will likely be a 5-6 month project as I am not rich lol and my wife is a special needs teacher so between her income and my retirement we do ok but building a system of this size with quality components is going to take a lot of save and buy a piece at a time lol!
The good thing is I am very handy and have lots of tools one could say that I am a jack of all trades and a master of most as I grew up with a Mechanic for a father, a Nurse for a Mom, and a Grandfather who owned his own construction company. So I can build a house from the ground up and the same with a car lol. I arc weld, wire weld, and Tig weld as well. I will be building my own stand out of wood for cost purposes lol. Once again thank you and I hope to be able to bring something to this community as well.

Welcome! I'm in San Antonio as well and started into this hobby just this last Spring. You picked a great community to be a part of - I can't tell you how much I've learned from the folks here at R2R and how many mistakes I avoided by spending hours reading through the posts each step of the way. This may be one of the few times where having insomnia works to your advantage! :)

Terry and his wife at Salty Fish are outstanding and a great source of knowledge. I'd also recommend Louis at Elegant Reef. We have a small local forum/Facebook group, MAAST, that isn't extremely active online but has some really great people that are very friendly and willing to help and hold several get togethers throughout the year.

Looking forward to watching your progress. Reach out anytime and thank you very much for your service to our Country.

Ha! It just dawned on me who you are! You bought my old Curve 5 from me recently, didn't you? I thought the name was familiar!

Glad to see you on R2R.
Yes sir I did I was planning a much smaller build then but due to research and my wife’s encouragement we are going a bit bigger however with having a large Refugium and starting with frags the Mag5 should be fine for a while lol.

Thank You to everybody for the warm welcome! I cannot express enough how excited and thrilled I am to be here. I will be starting the tank stand build probably today or tomorrow so be on the lookout lol I will try and take some good pictures and post a Build thread I want to do some pretty neat stuff but it’s going to be a budget build if there is such a thing?!

LOL - he said "budget". . . :p

LOL that’s why I said Sort of a Budget it’s a term I have figured through research doesn’t go with reef keeping especially if you want a nice user friendly setup lol! Good thing I’m a Science Major!
