Hello,

I recently joined the forum and figured I would introduce myself and my tank.

I got into this hobby in March of 2017 after seeing a 70 gallon Marineland display system for sale at a local pet store. It included a chiller, small sump and UV light. After some research I got it going as a saltwater fish tank and started adding some lps. Learned some painful lessons along the way and a year later - about 2 months ago came across a reefer selling a 180 Oceanic Bowfront with 70 gallon sump. I transferred everything across and added some more fish. As I started investing a bit of money and due to the earlier painful lessons decided to invest in an Apex system for peace of mind, controllability and security.

My am using the lighting from my previous tank (2 Current LED 48" lights) which is very underpowered for this tank but wanted to initially invest in getting the system stable and monitored before adding more corals and consequently lighting.

I have a smaller skimmer on the tank that is pulling out a lot of organics but have not decided if I want to add a larger skimmer. I like the idea of having more nutrients in the tank but my phosphates are at 0.25 and nitrates are at 20 ppm. In refugium is about half my sump volume so about 35 gallons with a bunch of chaeto. I am using 2700k bulbs for lighting in the refugium. Seems like some people are using a higher spectrum.

I am using kalk in my ATO to manage CA(450) and Alk (11.1). I have cut down on the amount of kalk I'm adding to the ATO as the Alk is getting a bit high.

My next investment will probably be in lighting. Thinking about starting out with 2 Radions 30 and see how the tank looks like with those. Any input?

Current fish in the tank are:

Naso tang
Sailfin tang
2 - clownfish
lawnmower blenny
yellow tang
blue tang
yellow candy hogfish

Anyway, that's my story.
