Hello everyone!

I am new to both this forum and the reefing community in general. I am currently in the process of planning our first saltwater aquarium. Inevitably, some questions have arisen and so I have come here for help I really want to set things up right the first time to prevent heartbreak in the future.

I'm excited to join you all, and thank you for making such a welcoming community!

Welcome. Tell us a bit about your reefing plans. You can even start a build thread to share and ask questions.

I highly recommend you find a build similar to what you are thinking or animals you are keeping and do some reading on them. Just a thought.

There is a lot of information out there, just need to filter it. :)

Hey welcome to the forum! Lots of good information here.
I live on the Eastside. The area is quite good for getting into the hobby.
If you haven't already, you might also check out Barrier Reef, Saltwater City, and Sea-King Aquariums.

I think I need to nail more things down before starting a build thread.... but mostly we have a 30 gallon tank on a stand that we are hoping to turn into a saltwater tank, with maybe two fish and softies. We have had many freshwater tanks but they just don't seem to have that magic!

That said, I feel like we have been getting conflicting information from every source. Our stand can't hold a huge sump tank, and we were told that a canister filter would do the trick... Everywhere I read, it sounds like these are a terrible choice. We haven't set ours up yet and it is BIG and says it is for marine systems, but I am definitely confused now.

Our other question pertains to water treatment... We live in an apartment and installing a big RO/DI filter is just not an option. It's not the price... It's that we don't have the ability to use it.

I almost have been feeling like we aren't ready for all of this, but my partner is dead set on powering forward without reading very much into things. Any help at all would be appreciated!!!

Thank you so much If all of this should be posted in different threads instead of here, I can do that too.

I'm on the Eastside too! Mostly we have been going to Denny's Pet World. I will definitely be checking those places out, I have been looking for specialty stores!
