Hello my name is Joe, I have a 40-45g (24L 20D 20H) w/sump. 40lbs rock, 40lbs sand.

Livestock:
2 - Clowns
1 - Yellow Tang

I want to get into soft corals, ones that move gentle as the water flows, ive been looking into LED lighting, and im confused with all the options. Id like to keep it under $150 if im able to, i doubt ill be doing hard corals, but would be nice i guess if the light is capable.

These are the 3 lights im looking at online. FEEL FREE TO SUGGEST SOMETHING BETTER.

1. Current USA Orbit Marine Aquarium LED Light
https://www.amazon.com/Current-USA-...99293789&sr=1-1&keywords=current+usa+led+reef

2. Ledgle Led Aquarium Light Dimmable 300W Reef Aquarium Led Lighting Full Spectrum with Crystal Lens

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OK8IDT...45xgM50BcnH5Dg&slotNum=16&tag=aqualedlight-20

3. Galaxyhydro Led 55x3w Dimmable 165w Full Spectrum LED Aquarium Light for Reef Coral & Fish

Welcome home, you will love it here!

I'm no lighting expert and I am watching the results because I need some LEDs for my Red Sea reefer 170 when my new home is finally built! :)

Hi! Welcome to reef2reef!

I'm in so cal too!

I can throw one more name into that hat.
Sbreeflight. It's a black box like the other two. About the same price but great spectrum.

The BB's are more power than you will ever need. You will wind up using very low settings with it.

So another thing to consider is how does it look on your tank when you walk In the room.

The current is low profile the Bb's are large and either hang or have mounting legs.
But has lower power than the others but is much more suited to a tank that size. But with built in timers. That's handy.

If your in San Diego I actually have a current I don't need.

Which one don't you need? Also what do you want for it, I'd be willing to travel depending on size of the light

Depending on where you are , there's two really good reef club sites. Always a deal to be had.
Sdreefs. And soclalireefs. The OC reef club is very active btw. I highly suggest hanging with those folks of your close.

No, we aren't affiliated with Socalireefs. That just happens to be the local forum to go to if you want to sell stuff. Kindof a shame, but a reality nonetheless.

Welcome to R2R! Lots of great, accurate and helpful advice to be found here. No such thing as a "silly question" on R2R.

So what kind of lights are you using on your reef tanks. Mainly looking into softies rather then hard coral. I k ow hard corals require stronger light and also dosing if I have my info correct. Im trying not to dose if I don't need to

The SBreeflight mentioned above are what a lot of reefers are using. Also the "black box" LEDs that are available from places like Amazon and eBay have been used by thousands of reefers with great success. Personally, I use Radions. Spendy, but worth it in my opinion.
As for dosing, regular water changes using a good salt will probably get you by for a while, but as you have growth, you may find the need for dosing increasing. Dosing really isn't as scary as it seems

As ndrwater stated, "good salt": HW-Marinemix Reefer Salt or Red Sea Coral Pro, would be worth looking into.

Used to have Current Orbit Led on standard 29g and kept couple Softies, few LPS and Monti Cap and did well.
I like its features and durability.

Not to sure how crazy I need to get on a 40g. I think the current orbit led will do me justice till I can afford a better suited light.
