Hi All,
I recently inherited an Aquatop 40g AIO from my father who was talked into buying "everything you'll need to get a reef tank going" by a LFS last year. He got it set up (putting everything in at once including fish) and obviously things did not work out well at all. After a little research and some help from a friend who used to have a 120g in Oceanside, CA years ago I was able to get the thing going again. Since then it's been up and down and I've been battling a nasty wave of Green Hair Algae for the last couple weeks with the help of a new LFS I found; and currently have two Clowns and an Engineering Goby, plus snails, hermits, and a sand-sifting sea star.
I used to keep reptiles when I was a kid and really enjoyed it, even with all the frustrations this hobby can bring I absolutely enjoy it!!! So much so that I am waiting on delivery of a 100g Mode Infinity series with stand and Sump to arrive. I have already been accumulating new rock to use and even found a table with the same footprint as the new tank to begin my aqua-scaping. I also just set up an RO/DI system and will be adding mixing containers soon.
Already this website and it's Forums have been a great resource for me as I continue to explore this fascinating hobby and learn how to cultivate an ecosystem of my own. The different views and experiences are educational and a lot of times can provide a laugh or two as well. The attached photos are of my current tank and the potential aquascape that will be going in my upgrade!
