Hi, I'm new here but have been keeping reef tanks for 13 or 14 years and freshwater for a lot longer than that...
My current tank is a Marineland 27 gallon cube(ish). This is a KISS setup with just a Kessil 360 and Spectral controller, Gyre 130 and MP10 for chaotic flow. I have a small HOB filter that houses the heater, some rock rubble for a dark 'fuge and some Purigen Blue. Livestock includes 2 clowns, 3 Talbot's damsels and a shrimp goby pair. I had a yellow coris wrasse but he decimated all my micro fauna so I traded him in for the Talbots.
It's been up and running for about 16 months now. Over the summer due to circumstances, I ignored it for about 3 months, just topping off with RODI. It became a hair algae and cyano tank and I ended up losing all my LPS and my zoas all turned brownish greeen. Aiptasia took over the tank.
About 3 or 4 months ago I decided to get things cleaned up. All of the algae is gone as is the cyano. After 4 months of trying, I finally caught the Yellow Coris wrasse and was able to get some Bergia. They are doing a great job cleaning up the tank of all the aiptasia.
I've decided not to add any LPS so it's softies, mushrooms, GSP, Xenia (both on islands) zoas and a gorgonia. I want to add a few more gorgonias, a few more mushrooms and zoas and have a place picked out for a Lavander mushroom rock (that I still need to find) that will hopefully host the clowns.
After that I'm just going to let it all fill in. The only maintenance is a 4 gallon water change every week or 2 and new Purigen every 4 or 5 months. I'll post some pics in the nano section when I get some time.
