Hello reefers,

I'm returning to the hobby after a very long absence. My previous reef tank was a converted Jewel tropical tank which ran on a hang on skimmer, a canister filter and metal halides. It ran brilliantly for 2 years, and I was very proud of my first attempt in the reefing world. The day my clown and BTA got together was something that I will never forget.

But then disaster struck when my family went on vacation to Florida for 2 weeks and the people who were meant to help me while I was away let me down.

It is my 50th birthday in August and my wife is going to treat me to a Red Sea aquarium. I'm going to be getting a 170, either the Max-E or Reefer. At this moment in time I simply can't decide between the two. I've seen the Max at a lfs and it was very impressive but I also understand the benefits of the Sump that comes with the Reefer.

I've already started to pick up bits and pieces (heater, power heads, Tunze ATO etc) but holding off getting a skimmer (Bubble Magnus S5 curve) until I finally make a decision on the tank.

I look forward to sharing my reefing experiences on this great forum.

Steve.
