Hello everyone,

I am a new reefer as of 4 months and 13 days ago.
I have always wanted to try a saltwater aquarium but I was always put off by a large amount of information I needed to do it right.
Well, just recently I made up my mind to give it a try. what the heck, I said.

My setup is a 55-gallon tank with no built-in plumbing. I honestly did not weigh the amount of rock and sand I put in there but if I had to guess, I'd say 30-ish lbs.

My tank inhabitants so far are listed below:
2 Halloween Hermit Crabs
10 dwarf hermit crabs
2 cerith snails
2 trochus snails
2 nasarrius snails
1 nerite snail

1 bumblebee gobi (normally sold as brackish water only fish)
2 saddle-back black n white barred clownfish
1 sailfin blenny (lawnmower)
2 peppermint shrimp (1 is banished to the sump for eating my coral)

1 bam-bam orange zoa
1 candy cane coral (6 heads)
1 GSP coral

I am currently battling hair algae in my display. I tried a 72-hour blackout with little effect. I am dosing vibrant once a week for the last 5 weeks, but again little to no effect.
I recently put in a protein skimmer and upped my water changes from 10 to 15 gallons each week.

Overall I am loving the hobby.

Good to meet all of you.

Hello and welcome to R2R!

Welcome to the fishy family! I must admit.... your headline made me think you were the youngest reefer EVER!!! LOL
Regarding the hair algae, get us some parameters so we can see what is going on. This is part of the growing pains of a new tank... we'll get you through.
I'm a big fan of using trochus, urchin and tangs to eat the stuff. Better solution than chemicals.
