Hello everyone my name is Alejandro, I live in Chino California. I currently have a Jbj 45 gallon tank and I think I’m getting to the ugly stage . I honestly don’t know if it’s the ugly stage or Cyanobacteria. I need help

Hey Alejandro, thanks for joining. And you are where we have all been. Be patient, change water, turn your lights down, and once again be patient.

Welcome to R2R! There are many friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people here. I think you’ll love it here.

As for the ugly stage, that’s where you’re at right now. It’s a normal part of the evolution of your system. Like was said above, be patient, don’t make any rash decisions, don’t overfeed, and research, learn all you can. Before you know it you’ll be out of the ugly phase and with a bunch of beautiful coral.

Hi Alejandro and Welcome! Glad you joined.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you in CA:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Welcome to R2R! It is hard to be sure from the pictures but it looks like you have diatoms which are a very common occurrence as a tank is settling in (the typical 'ugly' stage). It should burn itself out fairly soon. If it gets worse you can try decreasing your lighting period or increasing water flow in the affected areas. Don't churn up the sand too much as diatoms use silica (like in the sand) as fuel.
