Hello All,

I've been lurking on a bunch of reef forums and after a while noticed that most of the best info I was finding was here at reef2reef. So I decided this is where I will post my build thread for my 29 gallon aquarium.

I've run a 12 gallon aquapod in my classroom (I'm a math and science teacher) for the past year with moderate success. I finally convinced the family to turn the freshwater tank at home, into a saltwater tank.

I cleaned out the tank on Monday and the last 36 hours or so has been spent filling with RODI. Very slow. I think I need a booster pump.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to chronicling this here on reef2reef. Where is the appropriate place to put a build thread? Can I leave it here or is there a more appropriate section?

Thanks!

Welcome.

Aquapods are great all in one tanks. I loved mine.

Thanks - I took the cover off of mine, stripped a portion of the black vinyl on the back to allow for a light for a little fuge, added an AquaC remora nano, auto top off, chemipure elite, and a heater. I also have an eshopps dosing pump and a little koralia nano. I use a boost led par30 bulb for lighting.

This new tank at home will likely copy a bunch of the same gear. Although I think I'm going to get the tunze osmolator nano for top off and a larger remora for skimming. Also, no dosing as I think I'm going to keep this as FOWLR for a while.

Trying to post a picture from photobucket but having trouble... Any one have any tips? I've read this thread but it I think it is outdated as I can not find an option for Bulletin board link formatting. Thanks!

That's a shot of my messy back hallway in my apartment, where the tank resides. Looks a little better now!

Today my 40 lb bag of sand came as well as my Tunze 6025 that I'll be using for circulation. I also ordered Red Sea Salt - I've tried that and ESV on the school tank and prefer the ease of the red sea stuff) - but I received the small bucket instead of the large. Back it went! I'll pick up the big bucket from a local shop.

The live rock should come in between now and early next week. I ordered some dry base rock, plus a few small pieces of coraline encrusted live rock on ebay. I think I'll also pick up a two larger pieces from a local shop - already cured.

Then cycling will begin!

Hi all, I'm about three days into the cycle on a 29 gallon aquarium. I'm feeding the cycle with flake food. All was going well - had some amomnia build up occuring - and we went to add to a little flake food. When it was my son's turn, he dumped in a ton! I was able to scoop out a lot of it right away, but now the water is cloudy, blah blah blah.

What do I do? There isn't anything living in there besides four small pieces of live rock (and a whole bunch of dry rock, live sand, and whatever bacteria have grown).

I have an aquaclear filter on there, just running the sponge to catch junk. I can run to the store and buy a bunch of carbon and run that... I also have a bottle of biospira.

So what should I do? Let it be? Add stuff? Etc.

Thanks!

(I also posted this in reef discussion)
