Hi everyone!

I am new to the forum and new to saltwater. I have several freshwater tanks, but I am really looking forward to the world of saltwater! I am also terrified. LOL

I have been reading for months. I have a size 29 BioCube and stand that I got at a Black Friday sale at my favorite fish store, but other than that, I haven't made the leap to move any farther with this project yet! I think I'm going to lurk around a while and read some more before I try to set up anything.

:D

Welcome to R2R and the salty side. No harm in taking your time and reading all you can. Start of build thread and ask any questions that come up.

Welcome TikiBird! I also started in FW before going to SW. Other than the greater amount of parameters you need to keep track of, the biggest difference I've noted is how much faster nitrates build up, but also how more subdued the ammonia and nitrite spikes are during cycling. Who knows, maybe that's because I cycled my SW tank with live rock. If you want to sponge good info before getting started, I recommend checking out the stickies at Randy Homes-Farley's forum here on R2R.

Oh, and don't use tap water for water changes. You can get away with that with FW, but not with SW.

Interesting, @Oceansize! I think I will want to cycle with live rock, too. I will check out the stickies. Thanks!

:):)Welcome, it's such an exciting hobby, looking forward to seeing pictures.

Welcome and good luck! I had hard time with the 29. Imo do NOT use a carbon pad, you'll be very tempted, trust me, it'll only lead to a massive breakouts of gha! I don't want you to be frustrated with your first marine tank.
I finally tore mine apart. Now it grows sps like weeds!

Thats a small canister of gfo/carbon, protein skimmer on right. Ceramic bio balls or marine pure in first chamber (packed full), just cut up filter sock to catch debris, flows down onto a fuge and more ceramic bio spheres. That is a radion xr-15pro.

Good luck!
