Hey everyone.

Just took over a friend's fluval evo 13.5. New to the challenge abd have had some issues. FirSt I don't believe the tank was fully cycled( due to zoas not opening fully and fish seemed lathargic) and second I don't belive he totally killed his red algae problem. It seems to be trying to make a return

I replaced the return pump right away with a 300 gph and place another pump in the tank to increase flow and try to calm the algae(green and red). Also 40% water changes every week

Tank
Instant ocean 1.026
Zoas, leather, softies, and sps.
Maybe 7lbs live rock
Hermits
Turbo snails
Copepods
Urchin

Going to do watee tests in a few min so I'll have fresh numbers

Also can anyone can tell me what the heck the creature is in the attached pic. Repositioned a rock and noticed it

Does it look like a worm? Can you get another picture better focus?

I think the salt that you are using my be part of your issue. I you have a fish only with live rock (FOWLR) tank, then Instant Ocean would be the correct salt to use. But if you are wanting to keep a reef tank then you would want a Reef salt; something like Reef Crystals which would provide the elements needed for reef growth. So if the salt that you are using is the purple box labeled Instant Ocean and not the orange box labeled Reef Crystals then this may be the reason why your zoas are displaying the symptoms what you are seeing.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
