Hello. I’m new to the hobby I don’t know a lot of terms. My finish tank is starting to grow some rust looking thing on my sand (that’s where it started) and (now on my) rocks. I’m starting to go everywhere at first it was not noticeable at first. I have my lights on for 8 hr a day. I have a anemone in their as well and it started to look sad. Please help. Just noticed the pink specks today and it looks like theirs some green tint on the shell as well :(

Sounds to me like you’re dealing with the “ugly stage”. This is common in new tanks, as the tank matures and develops more benificial bacterias and such, there is like a mini war going on between all the bacterias. This will go on until it finds a balance.

The rust colored substance sounds like diatoms to me. Is the rust color “dusty” and easily removed? If so this is diatoms.

the pink spots: could be the beginning of coraline algae. (A good thing)

or could be cyanos. (Bad thing)

does it easily brush off rocks or is it encrusting on the rock

the rocks in the photos look very young. I think your just experiencing the normal “ugly phase”. Provided your keep parameters in proper levels, especially nutrients- it should clear up on its own eventually.

You could dose a bottled bacteria like Dr. Tim’s or Microbacter7- this may help expedite the process.

So the rust looking stuff came off I líderes up one of the rocks and with a paper towel kind of just lightly rubbed on it and it came off almost looks like dirt?
And the pink stuff I just kind of rubbed on it and it seems pretty hard not coming off.

This is pretty normal just diatoms growing in the tank. It will go through a ugly stage for some time. Rust in the tank would only be possible if you had metal in there oxidizing turning to rust.
