Hi all,
My name is Joel Schommer and I have always been into keeping fish. For most my life I have kept freshwater fish, but have always wanted a saltwater aquarium. I am from Nebraska and grew up in a town of 300 people. I married my wife Taylor 7 years ago and we have 4 beautiful children 2 boys and 2 girls (Jaydyn 8, Jett 6, Jemma 4, and Jersey 3). 6 years ago when we built our house I had designed everything to install a 210 gallon aquarium to put into my wall with access to a pantry for everything.
That dream has finally come true and this site has been a big help in getting started from the cycling process and everything to getting set up. My 210 w/40 Gallon Sump has been up and running for 4 months now and it has been a lot of fun, but also a lot of work and loving every minute of it. Originally wanted saltwater for the amazing fish you can put into your systems and have found a new love for corals and invertebrates.
The most fun however is seeing the kids and even my wife Taylor and the way they've taken to it. Taylor always thought I was crazy for wanting to do all the work for this kind of hobby and has now found a new love for it also. Basically she went from looking at it like it was my thing to now it is an all out family thing. So nothing goes unnoticed in the tank with so may eyes involved. Sometime I think she believes the tank is hers and I am just the custodian for it (HA). Anyway, that is a little about myself and I am excited to be a part of this site.
