I was sold a tang at the LFS a couple days ago. They told me this is a nano tang. It’s not recognized in the hobby yet as well. At least from he has told me. I trust him but what is this fish exactly? I can’t find anything on it. Lol

Sorry the video wouldn't upload. Here are some pictures.

Can you post a picture?

Possibly this? (If so, DEFINITELY not a "nano"! They can get to be 24")

Aka "Razor tang"

You’ve been lied to… This is a recognised tang that gets rather large - It could be one of the sawtail species but it could also be an Acanthurus guttatus. The size it is is hard to ID because of the pattern being so lacking.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a nano tang and your LFS seems to just be in it for the money over the well-being of the livestock…

This could be it but it could also be Prionurus punctatus or Prionurus briafraensis. I’m leaning more towards this species being in the Prionurus genus however I’m not going to completely knock out Acanthurus guttatus unless we’re able to know where this guy came from.

Ooh you’re right it does look like a saw tail. Maybe I will sell it off then.

He mentioned it needed a 40g minimum. Right now they eat like a pig and share a 30g but I was planning on moving it to a different system in he near future.
think it would be safe to keep it until I actually see what it grows out to ?

You could keep it for a while but you will have to rehome it when it gets too big (3” is probably the largest you could keep it in the tank).

Photo in white light let’s see the nano tang thanks
