I'm Drew, and I have a problem, though not yet. Got bit by the bug months ago and just doing my research and planning, watching hours of videos of various content in regards to reefing, setup, maint, etc. I'm probably 9 or so months out before starting, though as I have money I might pick up some used equipment here and there and keep saving for the tank and stand.
I'm not in a rush, plan on starting and cycling the tank with dry rock, sand, populate with bacteria and feed with ammonia a few times and see what my threshold is for bacteria eating up the ammonia over ~24 hours.
My brother and I had a 55gal fresh setup that went through a few iterations. Community tank to start and later to a large fish setup (big tiger oscar, large albino channel cat, little else). In college I had a 35gal hex I got a steal on and setup at home. My parents mostly cared for it while I wasn't home, stocked with cichlids. We had well water, and luckily enough we never had water issues, rarely did water changes and topped off with tap water. Never lost any of the cichlids.
My goal is a Reefer 350 or 250 with mixed coral, wanting to keep things relatively simple. Maybe a few SPS if I know the tank is stable enough consistently. I do want to have a fuge (copepods with the possibility of a mandarin). I'm big on minimalism so only having visible power heads/lighting will be a big plus for me. I'm shooting for diversity and color/movement.
Anyway, already found a lot of great knowledge being here the short time I have been lurking. Also, I live in the Sacramento area, Citrus Heights.
