My name is Don, and I have been involved with aquariums in one way or another since I was around 6 years old. I am now semi-retired and still involved as a hobby and business. After college I became a Graphic Designer for some years, but always dabbled with fish tanks. As a young man I got involved in Saltwater aquariums back in the early '60's., when they were in their infancy. One thing led to another and before you know it, I was opening an aquarium shop. We specialized in Saltwater from day one, and started importing directly from overseas. Within a few short months we opened our Wholesale division and developed a large clientle of dealers across the USA and Canada. We imported from all the major areas of the world, Pacific, Fiji, Taiwan, Australia, Sri Lanka, East Africa, Caribbean,Hawaii, Mediterranean Sea,and even Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean. we were one of the first to import from Masawa, Ethiopia and Red Sea fish. This was back in the late '60's.
We even imported Protein Skimmers from Sanders in Germany back in those days before they became the rage they are today. Air driven and not sophisticated as today, but they still worked.
i was in that business until 1995 when I retired and devoted my time to aquarium setups and maintenance. I still do that work to this day, although I limit my clients.
During the many years in the wholesale/retail business I had many outstanding employees. From Phd.
chemists, to doctors. One particular employee that worked with me for years was Dr. Mac from Pacific East Aquaculture. He has a successful Coral business at this time.
Enjoyed the many years in this great hobby, and fish keeping to this day!!!!!!!:smile:
