Hey everyone. I've had tropical planted tanks for about 20 years now but I would like to get into saltwater tanks. I've done lots of research about it and think I'm ready to try it with my first tank. I was thinking of getting a Kent Marine tank from Amazon www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007RXS9WO/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/279-3616108-9770566 what do you think of this tank for my first set up bearing in mind I don't really know a lot about keeping marine fish only what I had read online and looked at in books. Would this set up be ok as a starter tank, a sort of plug and play tank just so I get my head around all the processes of keeping saltwater fish. Any advice about the tank in the link from Amazon would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to R2R,my work is blocking amazon so I can not offer advice about that tank right now. I can sugest that you read all of the great "How To..." threads that are around here to get a good idea of everything that you will need and what to expect when you get the tank running. Setting up a tank correctly is one of the most important steps in having a amazing tank. Its pretty dificult and costly to fix that mistake. If you are looking for a plug and play type tank I would sugest looking at the JBJ cubes (depending on your budget). But ask all the questions you can think of, all the members here are more than happy to help. :D

Ok thank you, I didn't realise about posting the link for the tank on Amazon just thought it would be easier for people to see what I mean by viewing the tank I was talking about. I will definitely have a browse through the forum and no doubt I'll have a look of questions. Also I'll google the tank you mentioned and read the reviews on it.

Thank you for the response.

Welcome to r2r and the hobby.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm itching to get started now but will be patient and make sure I choose the right tank and set up. I've always thought that marine aquariums were stunning so just looking forward to getting on up and running.

Haha I know the feeling, and once you get your tank you will get the itch to get a much bigger tank

Lol I know and that's what worries me. I can just imagine that after six months of a nano aquarium I'll want a bigger one. Just need to start if slowly and get to understand everything first.

welcome to the forum and the salt side of the hobby! I think that tank looks good but I'm not super knowledgeable about the nano tanks - all in one is a great idea though in terms of wanting to learn and in having some decent qualify equipment to start. From what I've read (no personal experience at all - too intimidated) maintaining a freshwater planted tank can be very difficult and it takes a high level of understanding of the system to do it well. My guess is, once you get started, you'll find saltwater to be no more difficult if not easier than a planted tank.

Hello Fishroomlady

I've always had high specification set up and custom made highly planted freshwater so I know the importance of keeping the water as it's often the water that you keep and the livestock are the happy. It's just looking into a saltwater tank is a bit mind boggling, that's why I wanted to start with with a smaller tank even though I'm well aware that the smaller the tank the harder it is to keep the right balance and things can escalate quickly in a smaller environment. But I have a passion for freshwater so would like to take some of that and channel it into saltwater.
I've read a lot of posts on the forum and they are a great read and it's not something I'll be rushing into until I can get my head around how things work.
