Hiya everyone my name is Adam and I must say wish I found this site sooner and read a whole lot more. I am entirely new to keeping fish of any kind and thought it would be a good idea to jump in with both feet.

I have a 300g tank with 75g sump have had nothing but problems with keeping stuff alive until recently, think I just got lucky. It has been about a year since I put water in the tank.

I am planning on redoing my sump and going to try out the Triton method to get things cleaned up and steady I hope. So I am sure I will have tons of questions.

I will get some pics and a write up of what I have currently going on, just need to clean the tank first. Algae grows pretty quick along with cyano. Been keeping the cyano at bay by siphoning it off with my water change out drain tube.

Welcome aboard. Just wondering if your system has a refugium? I added one to my 140 gallon a couple of years ago and it made a huge difference. I found that by running as much as 16 hours of lighting, I could pretty much eliminate algae growth in the DT while keeping my nitrates down.

I have a small section of my sump with some chaeto in it, lights running about 10 hours a day right now. I can bump the light period up see if that helps.

I'm guessing (don't know the refugium size) but the extra light is a good start. Even better is more refugium volume with life in it. I keep feather dusters, small softies and of course extra rock for copepods, sponges and such.

My plan is to change my sump around a bit.
Right now I have 3 socks -> eshopps skimmer -> refug area (cheato and live rock) ->ejection. I also have a reactor with phosguard and one with biopellets.
Future vision tank drains right into refug %50 of sump -> reef ocotpus skimmer (already purchased) -> ejection. I will shut down the bioellet and phosguard if levels allow. I need to buy a better light for the refug right now I have two of the jbj nano's on it.

Ultimately I would like to be able to support a mixed reef in this tank.

Decided to take some before pics they are only from my phone so not the best but you can see my cyano garden . I did scrap the glass first.
Levels are:
Ammonia - 0 (API)
Nitrite - 0 (API)
Phosphate - .25 (API)
dKH - 7 (API)
Calcium - 400 (API)
PH - 7.8
Nitrate - 8 (redsea)
Salinity - 1.023 bit low due to siphon from ATO

The PH I can't seem to keep up I add Kent superbuffer dKH had it up to 8 last week. I don't have much stock in tank due to almost everything I put in dies.
