Hey everyone, some quick background. I've had all of my fish since December without issue. Tonight I noticed what looks like microbubbles, but want to be sure. These guys usually swim in front of the camera any other time but when you want their picture. What's your opinion?

It appears to be velvet.

Have you recently added anything new that is wet? Coral, rock, inverts?

So what probably happened is there were tomonts encysted upon whatever the coral was attached to and started releasing free swimmers into your tank. Now the fish are afflicted.

I put all of the corals on brand new plugs that hadn't been in use after dip regime

Yeah, it’s either velvet or ich. Do you have a QT system? How long have they had these spots. Velvet is a quick killer and will wipe your whole tank out. In either case, whether it’s velvet or ich, if that’s in your main display you’ll need to run the tank fallow to break the life-cycle.

but they did have a large amount of glue/gel that I didn't remove so it must've been on there?

You dipped the corals?

Do the spots look white or a yellowish-gold dusting appearance?

yes all corals go through a bayer dip and get new plugs... there isn't any yellow or gold dusting appearance

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. Of course I'm not setup to handle this, which is my own fault. Meds on order and picking up qt tank tomorrow. Hopefully they survive until friday when the quick cure arrives. Sad day...

Do I need to remove inverts as well? Shrimp, crabs, snails

Perhaps I don't know enough about velvet yet, but the member who sold me the corals stated he has fish in with the frags...
