I come from an island in Iowa called the Emptippines. Not to be confused with the Philippines. Nobody lives on this island, but a lot of people are from there.
Anyways I am very into my saltwater tanks. They have accidentally become reef tanks due to hitchhiking corals that are making me quite a bit of money on craigslist thankfully.
I am a mad scientist when it comes to the stuff as I am not on the wealthy side of things currently, thus leading to some very fun projects. Skimmers, surge devices, auto fish feeders, what ever..its all fun and most times end up better than manufactured devices.
As a young reefer, I am blessed with the mind set to evolve my tank as science proves new methods. Unlike you old farts out there with the under gravel filters, no offense to any of you because I am not the one who has to clean them lol.
MY tank is cool for a first ever attempt.
I named it CRAIG, as most of the Hardware came from his list.
I have a 55gallon diy sump/fuge w/ 80lbs of rock and a dsb.
This is plumbed into two tanks.
The 75 Gallon Main Display
The 10 Gallon Sale item/Grow out tank
I have in my permanency (i aint sellin em) a Porcupine puffer (named Mrs Puff) A Dwarf lion named MUFASA III (the first 2 came on there death bed) and the Volitan. His name is Shrimp because that is is favorite thing.
I use a small super skimmer65 and really mostly on my chaeto and corals as a filter, along with ample mussels of all sorts and a patch of caulerpa that i successfully keep in the 10gallon w/o spreading lol.
400 watts of metal Halide (was free) Light my main tank, but is suspended 18 inches due to the fact I DONT NEED BOILING WATER. I had t5s, but they stopped working and i like the flicker effect of the halide.
the petstore I used to work@ and shop hates my knowledge because they can't trick me into wasting money (on what they want me to, i waste it on crap i think i may use and end up dropping something on it that i also thought i would need)
Im always looking for better ways to make these ecosystems and am happy to help with what i have theorized and hope to see some cool tanks from you pepple. yes, PEPPLE.
