Been keeping a 75 gallon tank for about a year now and already had more hiccups than I care to count. Just got a LTA for my lone clown and worried about it since we have had it a week.

Hi and welcome to Reef2Reef!

We maybe need a full set of water parameters to see if there is anything wrong

Hi, my tank's also coming up to its 1st anniversary, and like you, it's been a steep learning curve!

I try to take in what I've read here and keep my parameters between the following recommended levels:-

ParameterSuggested Level:
Reef Aquarium
Suggested Level:
FOWLR Aquarium
Average Level:
Coral Reefs
Specific Gravity1.023 - 1.0251.020 - 1.0251.025
Temperature72 - 78°F72 - 78°F82°F
pH8.1 - 8.48.1 - 8.48.0 - 8.5
Alkalinity8 - 12 dKH8 - 12 dKH6 - 8 dKH
Ammonia (NH3)UndetectableUndetectableNear Zero
Nitrite (NO2)UndetectableUndetectableNear Zero
Nitrate - Nitrogen (NO3)< 10.0 ppm< 30 ppm0.25 ppm
Phosphate (PO4)< 0.1 ppm< 1.0 ppm0.13 ppm
Calcium350 - 450 ppm350 - 450 ppm380 - 420 ppm
Magnesium1250 - 1350 ppm1150 - 1350 ppm1300 ppm
Iodine0.06 - 0.10 ppm0.04 - 0.10 ppm0.06 ppm
Strontium8 - 14 ppm4 - 10 ppm8 - 10 ppm

I test my water regularly, I use an Apex controller that shows the salinity, temp, PH, alkalinity, calcium and magnesium, and I test the phosphate and nitrate with Hanna checkers.

If you can test your water for the above parameters, it may help to see if your water chemistry is ok and take it from there. Good luck, and hopefully you work it out.

Hi @Gabeek and Welcome! Glad you joined. People will need more information about your tank age, lighting, flow and water parameters to better help you assess what might be going on with LTA. Fingers crossed!

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread under Forum > Member Aquariums and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:
