I’m getting a larger tank but I’m torn between the Red Sea 3XL 900 and the Waterbox 220.6

What is everyone’s opinion?

Do I get the 900? Is it totally revamped and I won’t have to worry about Red Sea putting out anymore “faulty” tanks since the 750XXL?

Which stand and tank is built better?

I like the 900 for the split pump and more space but, I need some reassurance ha.

These days Red Sea has learned and fixed mistakes.

Waterbox and RS are very similar. I’d do a good feature comparison and decide which one you prefer. Or, since it’s 2022 and supplies everywhere are limited whatever one is in stock first.

True! I love the 900 but the horror stories haunt me in my sleep haha.

I’m also considering a CADE 1800 or 2100

@Brian6119 I’ve been looking at these same tanks for an upgrade in my future. Fortunately I am at least a year out. But, I’ll share some thoughts that I have had, hopefully it helps. I currently have a RS 425XL for reference.
  • Stand: Looking at pictures, the 900 appears completely open under the stand. I really want as much equipment separated from the sump and salt creep/spray as much as possible. Advantage: 220.6
  • Sump: I do not like the proprietary filter socks on RS. Unless you are going to install a Reef Mat which isn’t out yet.. Advantage: 220.6
  • Plumbing: would like the option to use a manifold and I like the gate valve on the 220.6 versus the diaphragm on the 900. Advantage: 220.6
  • ATO:Gotta have it! It’s a draw between the 900 and 220.6 but the Cade is absolutely the worst of all three! Disadvantage: Cade, but I love their peninsula systems.
  • Price: Advantage 220.6
  • Tank: Both 3/4” glass. Unless you want that extra 6.7”, it’s probably a draw.
I don’t know if I answered your question but I think I answered my own..

No complaints on my RS 900 so far. I bought mine before they came out with the all aluminum stand which would have been nice to have but not a big deal. The split sump is nice and I use mine as a refugium. I did convert all of their metric plumbing to standard (via unions) and upgraded to a gate valve which makes it much easier to tune.

Bigger is better. You get a better value per gallon from Reefer 3XL 900. I am currently trying to decide between Reefer 3XL 900 and Reefer-S 1000. Debating if the extra $ is worth the eurobracing and gallons.
