Hi All. First time on here and hoping to get some much needed input from you guys on my new marine system I am in the process of setting up.

I have had a nano marine aquarium in the past but it wasn't too successful!

This time I am converting a tank I once had as a tropical freshwater.

It a aqua oak large cube aquarium holding approx 150 litres.

I think I've got my head around most of the equipment apart from the filtration.

I really don't fancy drilling the tank unless I have to.

I already have a decent large external canister filter.

My thoughts are to use this, a hang on bubble magus q3 skimmer and then live rock and wave maker.

What's everyone's thoughts on this? Would it be enough? If so what media should I put in the canister?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks

Mark

Welcome mark To R2R , sounds like a good plan , you could put Sera siporax bio balls in Your canistier filter for extra filtration .. but if you have enough live rock in you should be Ok as Well , then with your hang on skimmer you could just run carbon or gfo in the canister , happy reefing

My system is a 55 gallons sumpless and skimless. I have 2 BTA anemones, 7 fish, CUC, 2 LPS, 1 acro, and a lot of palys. The only mechanical filter I use is a cannister with carbon and no other filter media. I can go a month without water change. The key for me is to avoid over feeding.
Have fun and go slow. We all have the tendency to want to add stuff to the tank. I added stock slowly. Each time I make sure my parameters are stable before I add more.

If you have plenty of room you could opt for a overflow box that sits on your glass and set up a sump to keep all your filtration below. The benefit of this is you have room for loads of filtration, you can set up a refugium to grow macro algae which help to control your Phosphates and nitrates. Just a thought
