My tank is suffering a serious algae outbreak and need help. It looks like a rust colored turf grass and is taking over my live rock. My tank is over a year and half old.

That stuff is nasty.
You can try fluconazole/reeflux hd, or vibrant.

Before any chemicals, try adding and/or bumping up clean up crew.
Turbo snails, margarita snails , cerith and nassarius snails and even a conch or two should mow this down. Algae blenny also mows on this stuff as does tailspot blenny and foxface rabbitfish.

Check on your phosphate levels which supports this algae greatly.

What size tank is this ?
what is your Maintenance Routine?
What type of Equipment do you have?
Skimmer,Filtration,Lighting and schedule, Rodi system and Tds monitor .
What live stock do you have?
What and how often do you feed?
What have you done up to now to try and deal with this ?

Algae issues are not as complicated as some might have us believe and 110% of the time can be solved without Chemicals..With few exceptions of course.

please give us the above info and we can try to guide you in the right Direction..
