Ok I haven't done the dip , so I will avoid doing that. Also I don't have a ground probe all I have a BELKIN power outlet to which all my pumps, heater etc are connected and the belkin is connected directly to the outlet in the wall. Is some thing wrong what am doing ?

Nothin wrong with that! heaters and pumps go bad for various reasons most of the time its the cord going into the unit has become uninsulated so there are bare wires in contact with the water. I recently had this happen to one of my heaters for no apparent reason. Im just trying to cover all the bases of what could ever possibly go wrong and its the only thing on the list that hasn't been covered. So you just gotta get or borrow a voltmeter or multimeter to see if you have stray current in the tank. If all your equipment is still good then I have absolutely no clue whats going on nothing on the tank changed you'll have to chalk it up to just one of those things that happens out of your control and try your best to save corals until the "storm" clears. Hopefully youll find some stray current so you can pin point that as your cause and have an explanation though.

Its one of those things that because no one really knows every single reaction thats going on in an aquarium, strange stuff happens with no explanation and we as reefer just have to deal with it and move on unfortunately. Again if you don't find stray current.
