Help ammonia reading

reason this is neat:

there's no ammonia in a sandbed to be released.

source for claims: any seneye owner in the world. that being not seneye above/anything could be affecting the reading.

after following the directions and converting that reading above to nh3, which reefing uses, you have a passing level anyway that's not a danger and moving a sandbed didn't kick up ammonia. ammonia is not piled up in a reef tank unused anymore than a gold brick left on the sidewalk untended remains there for more than an hour.

Are you sure it was cycled to begin with? You shouldn't really have enough junk in the sand to cause a spike in such a young tank…
Yeah ammonia was at 0 but I’ve been reading that when you disturb/ clean the sand bed you can release too much anaerobic bacteria that can cause a crash so that’s what I think may have happened. Also is this really considered such a big spike even tho it came back down I’m new to the hobby so any opinions/ thoughts are welcome

Except that didn’t happen, forums make up stuff

try and find any article that reeftank sandbeds have unused ammonia ready to release. You can only find that in posts for a reason, you don’t see Randy’s article on ammonia stating that

This thread is being assessed as an ammonia noncontrol event but there isn’t a failing test at all, it’s passing. So with a passing, working level ammonia reading we are at page two stating reasons the tank can’t handle ammonia but all animals are fine.

thats a passing, not a failing test on post #1

Want some great advice?

Tank is 1 1/2 months old, and has livestock in it, and not appear to be suffering? Throw the dang ammonia kit away. No reason to ever test ammonia beyond the initial cycle. in 40 years of keeping fish, I have never used an ammonia kit beyond the initial cycle.

Wait......
Did I just like a post by @brandon429, and actually agree with him? Whats this world/forums coming to? :D

Let the record reflect there are ten thousand posts of me saying don’t mess with a sandbed or it will release ammonia lol

I bought in too, what changed me was looking at peoples seneye posts when we remove their sandbeds or exchange them in a given setup

seneye changed everything we all used to make up about reef tank cycling.
