My tank has been running over a year for about the first 6 month I tested for ammonia religiously and it was always near zero. When my test kit ran out I never replaced it. So when setting up a QT tank using old tank water and sachem stability I got a new ammonia test and it was at .25. So I check my RO/DI water and it was zero mixed a batch of water and it was .25.

Now the kicker is my display tank is also showing .25 ammonia.

Now if it was the salt mix my display tank should be able to handle it ( I only have 2 clowns, randal’s goby and miller blenny along with a few snail and hermits).

I am not sure if it is the kit because my RO/DI reads zero ammonia.

The kit may be bad, but new salt water often has a small amount of ammonia in it. Not as high as 0.25 ppm usually, however.

If the display shows ammonia despite being up a long time, I'd think it most likely the kit is in error.
