Help - Anemone Distressed - I think

still same as this morning. Most of its tentacles are still that nice green color. And the base is still a nice orange color. Does anyone think the nem is still alive?

Alive? Yes. Looks seriously unhappy tho.

This is with lights on. Thoughts?
See if you can protect him from the clowns, they are no doubt causing more harm to the animal. Try covering it with a clear plastic cup or removing it from the tank and putting it in a hanging basket. I would do an iodine dip just to be safe, it could eliminate whatever bacterial junk is going on here. Make sure the nem is deflated (not an issue here) before you put it in the dip, so it can adsorb the dip and be more effectively treated. Other than that, watch it closely. LTAs have been the hardiest nems in my care, I had a giant 2' one who lost every single one of its tentacles in a powerhead. A month later, you couldn't tell it had even been scratched. Their biggest weakness seems to be foreign infection, so getting on top of that will be key here.

Definitely isolate the nem for a while, keep it safe from the clowns battering it. It's very important to properly size your clowns and nems so that the clowns don't shred them just by swimming around. I would say that if the nem's oral disc is less than 2 clowns in diameter, the clowns will likely stress it out and could potentially do some damage to it.

Good luck with the nem. I've had them recover from this state, but it's a hard battle. Keep a close eye on it, and if it begins gaping, look into a Ciprofloxacin treatment. @OrionN has perfected that technique, so maybe he can give some input.
God bless!

The nem has released its foothold and now laying on its side. Here’s an updated picture. Looks a bit discolored. Do you think this is an infection? I can set up a separate tank and do treatment if that’s the right course. Let me know. Thanks

A quick update: I set up a quarantine tank thinking I would medicate with anabiotic‘s. I added all brand new mixed water, nothing from the tank system. The nem seem to perk up within a few hours attached itself to a rock and as you can see from the picture is starting to expand ia few tentacles. I think maybe I have something in the reef water that is really upsetting the nem. I’m going to hold off on anabiotic’s and see what happens.

Did your main display have the desired dkh?

No, it was low. Around 7. I'm slowly raising the tank to 9. Its at 8.2 today. The new mixed water I used it at 8.4. I typically adjust the mix (Tropic Marin Pro) to 9 before use, but in my rush to get the nem into a new tank, forgot.

If I decide to treat with antibiotics, where do you source them?

Update this morning. Nem is very fat. And some of its tentacles have expanded. I haven’t given him any antibiotics just yet. Waiting to see if it gets better without them. He is eating and pooping.

Check out these videos and let me know if you think it’s still pretty sick. It looks very odd.

Latest update. More tentacles are expanding. But he does have some stringy material hanging off of him like old dead skin. Has anyone seen this before?

Looks like he lost most of his tentacles and is swollen. I have anabiotic‘s on the way but they’re held up from the snowstorm. I’m still hand feeding him shrimp. and he is still eating Losing his tentacles, does that mean he’s going to die?

Stop feeding the nem it may be causing more harm than good , I think cipro is about the only course to take at this point besides stability and leaving the nem alone

that is how my nems started to look with bacterial infection , losing tentacles and looking weird cipro is what saved them. First pic it was sick , after cirpo it got healthy and split can see next two pics

I think you should of left the anemone alone, in the original aquarium, you first instincts tells you it's acting wierd, so you did a water change which I assume is best course of action :), besides that I think patience was missing.

The video you provided look to me more like anemone was in distress ?
Anemone are slow moving and great at finding the best spot for them, they can close for 2-3 days to poop (I have read sometimes weeks)

OK, will stop feeding. For my knowledge, how does that make things worse?

Thanks. I guess I was worried for the nem. First nem and really didn't want him to die. It happened so fast, my head was spinning. o_O

Sick anemones are using a lot of energy to just survive the infection, if being fed they will need to use even more energy to digest and it could be using more energy than what it is gaining from the food aka making it even weaker. They just need light to feed zooxanthelle

Very insightful. Thank you. I had the nem for 2 months and he was beautiful and growing BIG quickly. Then in just 24 hours, he was in bad shape. In this situation, was there something in the water that caused the infection and if I put him back in in the DT, will the infection come back? Or was this something lying dormant before I got the nem and waiting to happen?

theres no way to know fosure , could be bacterial , chemical ware fare , parameter swing causing weakened immune system leading to bacterial infection. Ime wild nems seem way more susceptible to this thing than captive bread nems. It’s a slow decline it could have been sick since before you bought it
